Pursuant to a letter dated September 16, 2010, from the Medical Education Section-4 of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, a decision was made to establish a research unit through the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. The objective was to strengthen preventive and curative measures against Japanese Encephalitis (JE/AES) in the Gorakhpur district. Consequently, the Clinical Research Unit (Homoeopathy), Gorakhpur, was established at B.R.D. Medical College, Gorakhpur, in 2012.

At the time of its inception, the unit operated from Rooms 10 and 11 of the Private Ward. In view of the steadily increasing number of patients and the expansion of research activities, a request was made to the Principal of B.R.D. Medical College, Gorakhpur; subsequently, Rooms 5, 6, 7, and 8 of the Private Ward were also allocated to the unit, facilitating its expansion. Later, due to the approval and announcement of a tender to demolish the Private Ward building and construct a new one in its place, the Clinical Research Unit was relocated—under the orders of the Principal, B.R.D. Medical College—to the ground floor of the new OPD building. OPD services, clinical research, medicine distribution, training, and other scientific activities are currently being conducted there. This unit provides free homoeopathic medical services and research-based treatment to patients arriving from the Purvanchal region, Bihar, and the Nepal border areas.

On July 22, 2025, a high-level team from the Council, led by the Director General of the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), New Delhi, inspected the Clinical Trial Unit (Homoeopathic) at B.R.D. Medical College, Gorakhpur. During the inspection, a detailed review was conducted regarding the clinical trials, research activities, patient services, available infrastructure, and ongoing research work at the unit. Subsequently, a detailed meeting was held between the Principal of B.R.D. Medical College and Council officials to discuss the smooth operation of the Clinical Trial Unit, the expansion of research activities, future research projects, and the effective implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). A consensus was reached to further strengthen mutual cooperation and to comprehensively develop research and patient services.

Following the inspection, the Director General commended the research work, scientific activities, and patient services being conducted at the unit and provided necessary guidance and suggestions for the future expansion of research and clinical trials.

The Director General delivered a detailed lecture to MBBS interns covering the importance of research work, the clinical trial process, research methodology, patient selection, informed consent, data collection, research ethics, and various dimensions of homoeopathic research.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on October 17, 2025, between the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), New Delhi, and BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur. Under this agreement, BRD Medical College extended institutional support and consent to the Clinical Research Unit (Homoeopathy) to conduct scientific research and clinical trials on various diseases. Research activities on various diseases were initiated through Dr. Ramesh Prasad, Research Officer (Homoeopathy), and clinical trials are being conducted in accordance with established research standards and protocols. This collaboration has further strengthened scientific activities in the fields of homoeopathic research, patient care services, and medical education.

Currently, the unit is successfully conducting clinical trials, clinical verification, public health-based research, training programs, and scientific projects on various diseases under the guidance of the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy. Additionally, facilities such as free consultations, homoeopathic medicines, and necessary laboratory tests (related to clinical verification projects) are provided to patients. The unit is continuously working to promote evidence-based homoeopathy and provide quality healthcare services to society through medical care, research, and academic activities.
