INSTITUTE/UNIT |
Dr Anjali Chatterjee Regional Research Institute for Homoeopathy has been established in the year 2010 in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was established by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Ministry of Health & Family welfare, Govt. of India for carrying out clinical research, basic research on Scientific guidelines in Homoeopathy and treatment in the field of homoeopathic system of medicine. |
|
INCEPTION AND UPGRADATION
|
· In the year of 1972 a small unit of CCRH was established in the name of Drug proving Resaerch Unit, Kolkata, in the campus of D.N. De Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata with a view to conduct the Drug proving programme. · Subsequently this has been upgraded to Regional Research Institute (Dr. Anjali Chatterji Regional Research Institute for homoeopathy, Kolkata) in the year of 2010 in the present address. · A state of art Virology laboratory has been set up over here. · Apart from Drug proving various Clinical Research studies are being carried out at this Institute, on projects like Urolithiasis, Breast cancer, Autism, Fibro adenoma of Breast , Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD) , Psoriasis, Hypertension, Migraine, Vitiligo, Cough, UTI, Warts, Adolescent behaviour, Adjustment disorder, Dengue, Clinical verification and COVID-19 diseases. · Recently Drug Standardization Laboratory and Animal house are also developed to enhance many more preclinical, clinical and basic/fundamental research studies. · The Institute is also rendering our services with effective homoeopathic treatment to a large number of patients in daily general OPD. Beside these the Institute is also providing medical care facilities time to time to the remote areas under its Swasthya Rakshan camp and SCSP programme |

2. Pharmacovigilance centre
Pharmacovigilance for ASU &H drugs is a central sector scheme of a three-tier network under the Ministry of AYUSH. The activities are reported monthly to the Intermediary Centre for Pharmacovigilance (IPvC) at the National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata. From the IPvC, the signals are assessed further and reported to the NPvC regularly at the All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi.
DACRRI (Kolkata), has been designated as one of the Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centres (PPvC) under the Central Sector Scheme of Pharmacovigilance for ASU&H drugs since June 2018. The Officer in Charge of the Institute, Dr. Arti Soren, scientist-4, is serving as the Coordinator of PPvC, DACRRI. Dr. Sumanta Kamila, Junior Research Fellow, is assisting with the activities of the pharmacovigilance centre.
Activities of PPvC
• Conducting Orientation programs on Pharmacovigilance among students, physicians and paramedical staffs working under Dept. of Ayush system of medicine all over the state of West Bengal.
•Collect reports of Adverse Drug Events after administering homoeopathic medicine from an identifiable reporter.
• Sending the collected Adverse Drug Events (ADE)/Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) report to IPvC&NPvC.
• Tracing Misleading advertisements in the homoeopathy sector as per the objectionable advertisement act 1954.
• Reporting identifiable misleading advertisements and claims regarding homoeopathic medicines in print, T.V., and electronic media to The Drugs Controller &Licensing Authority, Govt of West Bengal
• A report of the action taken by the State Licensing Authority is periodically sent to the higher pharmacovigilance centre (NPvC).
• Ensuring Patient safety at all levels.
3. HOSPITAL PHARMACY
This department provides the medicating and dispensing medicines according to the Standard guidelines of Homoeopathy in the most hygienic environment. Registration fees and medicine charges are collected from all patients in accordance with the approved government rates.
4. LABORATORY FACILITY
Laboratory facilities for Hematological and Biochemical investigations are available. The investigations are charged as per Govt. approved rates. For BPL patients and Research cases, these charges are not applicable. The other special tests related to projects for which facilities are unavailable are being outsourced.

5. OTHER MEDICAL FACILITY
•ECG: The staff will take this investigation as per the patient's requirement.
6. IN-HOUSE FACILITIES
A. Virology:
Virology laboratory was established and inaugurated on 12th September, 2017 by Hon. Minister of State Shri Shripad Yesso Naik. Scientific researches are conducted in the field of homoeopathy with the help of basic research scientists. Researches are done on various viral diseases and in-house nosodes of viral origin for the benefit of human beings. Antiviral activity of homoeopathic drugs is studied. Intracellular mechanism of action of homoeopathic drugs is observed.
B. Drug standardisation:
a. DS-CHEMISTRY LABORATORY–It is engaged in the standardization of homoeopathic drugs through physicochemical characterization and analytical profiling. Its mandate includes the development of pharmacopeial monographs, preparation of standards for BIS, and contribution to the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India (HPI). Research is focused on ensuring quality, safety, and reproducibility of raw drugs and mother tinctures. Studies are also undertaken to support the inclusion of new drugs.
b.DS- PHARMACOLOGY LABORATORY –It is a fully equipped, research-intensive facility established as part of the Drug Standardization Programme under CCRH in 2021. It is one of two core pharmacology labs dedicated to rigorous preclinical assessment of homoeopathic medicines, employing behavioural pharmacology methods (e.g. rotarod, elevated plus maze), in vivo disease modelling (PCOS, epilepsy, immunosuppression, neuroinflammation), and comprehensive toxicology (acute to chronic, OECD-compliant). Integrated with specialized biochemistry, histopathology, molecular biology labs, and a small-animal house, the lab enables multi-level investigations from molecular mechanisms to systemic safety and efficacy profiling. Its primary aim is to standardize and validate homoeopathic drug formulations pre-clinically, bridging classical practice and modern biomedical science.
C. Animal house:
Preclinical studies are conducted on BALB/c mice and Wistar albino ratssince 2019.In-house breeding facility is available.
D. Drug- proving unit:
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of Homoeopathic Drug Proving was conducted in collaboration with five homoeopathic medical colleges—CHMC&H, DNDeHMCH, MBMC&H, PCMC&H, and MHMC&H. Students from all five institutions participated as provers in the study.
7. OTHER FACILITIES
A. Out Reach Camps:
Free medical check-up camps are conducted around the district to promote awareness on Homoeopathy.
B. AYUSH and AROGYA melas:
Free medical camps are conducted to promote awareness about Homoeopathy, along with IEC materials distribution, and sale of CCRH publications.
