The Homoeopathy Research Institute for Disabilities, Chennai, is a pioneering Unit under the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Originally established as the Clinical Research Unit (H) in November 1987, at No. 14, 11th Cross Street, Sasthrinagar, Adyar, Chennai – 600020, in accommodation provided by the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy (ISM&H), Government of Tamil Nadu. The Unit functioned from this location until May 1992.
In June 1992, the Unit was shifted to a private rented premises at Door No. 4, Bharathiyar Street, Kanagam, Chennai – 600113. Later, it was relocated to MIG: 103/4, 30th Cross Street, Besant Nagar, Chennai – 600090, also a private rented accommodation.
On 1st March 2004, the Clinical Research Unit (T), Salem, Tamil Nadu was merged with the Clinical Research Unit (H), Chennai, further strengthening its research capabilities.Subsequently, the Unit was moved to B-32, 3rd Cross Street, AGS Colony (Sea Side), Kottivakkam, Chennai – 600041, in February 2010, and later to 19/9, Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar Main Road, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai – 600041, on 4th March 2015, both are private rented accommodations.
On 19th August 2017, during the Indo-Malaysian International Homoeopathic Conference held at Sri Sai Ram Homoeo Smart Info 2017, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Director General, Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Ministry of AYUSH, and the Director, National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. As part of this collaboration, an Outpatient Department (OPD) was initiated on 12th October 2017 at Room Nos. 8 & 13, NIEPMD, Chennai. Subsequently, on 3rd August 2018, the Unit was formally relocated to five rooms allotted in the Model School Building campus of NIEPMD, Muttukkadu, Chennai on rental basis. With this shift, the Unit was renamed as the Homoeopathy Research Institute for Disabilities (HRID), marking a new chapter in its service and research for the persons with disabilities.
In line with further expansion and improved infrastructure, the Unit was shifted to its present location, 7 rooms allotted at the G+7 Building, A Block, 1st Floor, NIEPMD Premises, Muttukkadu, Chennai, on rental basis and started functioning with effect from 1st July 2024.
