a) About the Institute
Central Research Institute of Homoeopathy located at A-1/1, Sector 24, NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh is one of the premier research institutes of Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi under Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, came into existence w.e.f 1st May, 2007.
It was named as Dr. D.P. Rastogi Central Research Institute of Homoeopathy on 7 th October 2015 and officially inaugurated by Shri Shripad Naik, Honble Minister of State (Independent charge), Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
Late Dr. D.P. Rastogi (1939-2010) was the Director of Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, New Delhi from 1984-1999. His major contribution in the field of Homoeopathy started with the Formulation of Homoeopathic Central Council Act in 1973. He introduced Homoeopathy in Drug and Cosmetic Act and took initiatives for publication of Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India. He was a passionate teacher, author, physician and researcher. He is also known as the Ambassador for Indian Homoeopathy and has been honoured with numerous awards, to name a few:
- The Hahnemann Award in 1995
- Dhanwantri Award in 1997
- Hahnemann Memorial Award in 2002
- The Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008
The institute has been established with its focus on research and engaged for overall development and promotion of Homoeopathic system of medicine through scientific research. There is full fledge hospital set up including OPD, IPD, Laboratory facilities along with speciality clinics viz. ENT, Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy, Lifestyle Disorder Clinic, Dermatology and Rheumatology clinics are running successfully within the institute. Apart from catering to the needs of the patients, the institute carries out research in the field of Drug Standardization, Drug Proving, Clinical Verification and Clinical Research.
The institute endeavours to keep pace with the time and conduct research on the scientific parameters without deviating from the principles of homoeopathy, so that the results of these scientific studies may be used not only by the homoeopathic fraternity but the scientific world for the betterment of mankind as well.
Apart from the primary focus, the institute is also developing Resource Centre of Information on Homoeopathy.
b) Mandate of the Institute
- To explore various homoeopathic research areas involving multi-disciplinary approach in the light of modern scientific parameters.
- To standardize homoeopathic drugs in terms of their pharmacognostical, physico-chemical and pharmacological profiles for quality control of homoeopathic drugs.
- To prove coded homoeopathic drugs on healthy human beings through double blind technique.
- To clinically verify the pathogenesis of proved/partially proved homoeopathic drugs.
- To work in the field of fundamental, applied and evidence based research areas to explore the possibilities of solution of problem related to potency and mechanism of action of homoeopathic drugs scientifically.
- To collaborate with other Institutes (Homoeopathic and Allied) for taking up research projects and exchange information with other Institutions of Excellence for promotion of Homoeopathy.
- To propagate research findings and awareness amongst the homeopathic fraternity in particular and masses in general; through books, monographs, journals, newsletter, I.E.C. Material, CME, audio visuals etc. through National Resource Centre, Public Information cell, Arogya melas, Awareness camps etc.
- To make efforts for the capacity building of scientists, Para-medical staff, administrative staff by organizing and participating in the Continuing Medical Education, Workshops and Seminars at national and international level.
- To provide effective and free health care services to the needy at grass root level through its regular OPDs, IPDs and health camps.

A. Drug Standardization
Aims and Objectives:
{C}i. To lay down Pharmacopoeia standards for identity, purity, quality, safety and therapeutic efficacy in terms of Pharmacognostical, Physico-chemical and Pharmacological profiles of raw as well as finished products of homoeopathic drugs.
{C}ii. To propagate/disseminate the research findings through publication of Reports, Scientific articles, Monographs and Books etc.
The study of “Drug Standardization” is meant for Pharmacognostical, Physico-chemical and Pharmacological profiles of drug and one of most fundamental prerequisites study for introduction of new drug or formulation in clinical practice. In medical science, drug standardization study plays major role to ensure genuineness, purity, quality, safety and efficacy of the medicine before clinical trial in human.
In homoeopathy, Pharmacognostical study helps in proper identification/authentication of genuine drug from its adulterant by undertaking macro and microscopic study of plant parts and powders which are used for preparation of homoeopathic drugs. Physico-chemical study ensures purity and quality of active ingredients of drug whereas Pharmacological study ensures side/adverse/toxic effects of the drug and helps to standardize the therapeutic and lethal dose of drug in laboratory animals before the drug is subjected for clinical trials in human being.
At present this institute conducts only Pharmacognostical & Physico-chemical aspects whereas Pharmacological study will be initiated soon in newly established animal house.

B. Drug Proving
The very foundation of homoeopathy is based on the action of drug substances on the living systems. The earliest experiments conducted in homoeopathy were those of Drug Proving on human beings. Trials conducted on healthy human beings elicit the finer symptoms of the drug as compared to the gross toxicological symptoms evident from animal studies. These more subtle subjective and objective symptoms form the profile of the drug recorded further in the Homoeopathic MateriaMedica.
The institute conducts drug proving to record the signs and symptoms of coded drugs on healthy volunteers, in collaboration with various Homoepathic Medical Colleges. At present, the study is being conducted in collaboration with Nehru Homoeopathic Medical college and hospital, New Delhi and will also initiate the study with Bakson Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Greater Noida and Dr. B. R. Sur Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, New Delhi. So far, 31 drugs have been proved under this programme by the Institute.

DRUG PROVING NODAL OFFICE
Till June 2014, the coding of the medicines was being done at the CCRH headquarters and now with change of the nodal office of multicentric study of Drug Proving to DDPRCRI (H), Noida this is being done at this Institute only. The coded drugs are given to the volunteers, as per standard protocol. Both the prover and the proving master are unaware of the medicine being proven (Double Blind Method).

C. Clinical Verification
Homoeopathic Materia Medica is built upon signs and symptoms produced during proving of the drug on healthy human volunteers, toxic effects as observed during accidental poisoning or prolonged use of the drug, and clinical symptoms (observed to disappear while drug is administered to sick person). The symptomatic data need to be clinically verified on sick persons for their prescribing value before it is included in the Homoeopathic Materia Medica, which forms the basis of clinical prescription of the respective drug(s) on sick. So far, 73 drugs have been verified and study of 08 drugs is going on.

D. Clinical Research
To trace out a set of efficacious medicines in various disease conditions and to study the role of a particular drug in a disease condition clinical research is being carried out based on recent medical parameters. The institute has conducted several clinical research studies and as per the assignments randomized controlled trials are being taken up in the research areas of National importance. Special days are assigned to each doctor/investigator for enrolment/screening/follow up of the research cases, in addition to their regular general OPD/IPD duties.

{C}{C}· {C}Acute diarrhoeal diseases in children:A multicentricopen Clinical trial to evolve a group of efficacious homoeopathic medicines in the management of Acute diarrhoeal diseases in children wasinitiated in May, 2007 and concluded in September, 2008. 204 cases were screened & 189 were enrolled out of which 174 completed the study, against the target of 100.
{C}{C}· {C}Acute rhinitis in children:A multicentric open clinical trial to evolve a group of efficacious homoeopathic medicines in the management of Acute Rhinitis in Children was initiated in October,2005 and concluded June,2008.117 cases were screened, 107 cases were enrolled.
{C}{C}· {C}Urolithiasis: A Multicentre Observational study to ascertain the role of homoeopathic therapy in Urolithiasis was initiated in April, 2007 and concluded in January, 2010. 206 cases were screened, 50 cases were enrolled and 29 cases completed the study.
{C}{C}· {C}Chronic bronchitis: Simple and mucopurlent chronic bronchitis was initiated in April, 2007 and concluded in September, 2010. 172 cases were screened out of which 24 completed the study.
{C}{C}· {C}Chronic sinusitis:was initiated in July, 2008 and concluded in March, 2010. 187 cases were screened & 85 were enrolled out of which 68 completed the study.
{C}{C}· {C}Distress During Climatic Years(DDCY):Sepiain Menopausal Symptoms: A Multi-centre Randomized Double Blind Placebo Controlled Clinical Trial: Project started in May’12 & concluded in May’14.143 cases were screened & 22 were enrolled out of which 20 completed the study.
{C}{C}· {C}Influenza like illness: was initiated in February, 2013 and concluded in May, 2013. 38 cases were screened & 24 were enrolled out of which 24 completed the study
