Future vision

The Clinical Research Unit (Homoeopathy), Aizawl, envisions becoming a strong, dependable and regionally responsive centre for clinical research, public-health service and scientific capacity-building in Mizoram and the wider North-Eastern region.

1. Develop research that responds to the actual health needs of Mizoram

The Unit will identify locally relevant health problems and translate them into well-designed clinical, epidemiological and public-health research. Priority areas will include hypertension, respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders, skin diseases, substance-use disorders, menstrual health, endemic and lifestyle-related diseases, and other conditions of particular relevance to the people of Mizoram.

2. Establish the Unit as a centre for high-quality clinical research

The Unit will progressively undertake randomised controlled trials, observational studies, surveys, case-based research and collaborative projects in accordance with scientific, ethical and regulatory standards. The aim will be to generate credible evidence that can contribute meaningfully to clinical practice, public-health planning and the Council’s national research objectives.

3. Reach communities that have limited access to research and healthcare

Regular health camps, screening programmes, awareness activities and follow-up services will be organised in remote and underserved areas of Mizoram. These activities will not be treated merely as isolated camps, but as opportunities to understand community health needs, facilitate early identification of disease, improve health awareness and develop future research priorities.

4. Build lasting partnerships within the State

The Unit will strengthen collaboration with the State AYUSH Directorate, Civil Hospital Aizawl, medical and academic institutions, universities, public-health agencies, community organisations and other scientific bodies. Such partnerships will enable better patient referral, laboratory support, training, data generation and implementation of multidisciplinary research.

5. Create opportunities for young doctors and researchers in the North-East

The Unit will serve as a local platform for training, mentorship and research exposure for practitioners, interns, students and young researchers. Workshops on clinical research methodology, research ethics, scientific writing, protocol development and data analysis will be conducted so that research capacity is developed within the region rather than remaining concentrated only in distant institutions.

6. Develop reliable regional health information

The Unit will work towards generating systematic data on disease patterns, treatment outcomes, health behaviour and unmet health needs in Mizoram. Such data can assist the Council and the State Government in identifying priorities, designing programmes and making evidence-informed decisions for the region.

7. Strengthen scientific communication and public engagement

Research findings will be communicated through peer-reviewed publications, scientific meetings, continuing medical education programmes, bilingual health-education material and responsible digital communication. The Unit will also make research information understandable and accessible to patients, families, practitioners and the wider public.

8. Promote continuity, accountability and measurable growth

The Unit will develop annual targets for research, publications, patient services, outreach programmes, collaborations and training activities. Progress will be documented and periodically reviewed so that the Unit’s development remains transparent, measurable and aligned with the Council’s mandate.

• The larger vision is not merely to increase the number of activities conducted by the Unit. It is to ensure that the people of Mizoram have a permanent and responsive research institution within the State -  one that understands their geography, culture, health problems and practical difficulties, and is capable of converting those needs into scientific questions, meaningful services, credible evidence and informed public-health action.
• A sustained institutional presence in Mizoram will also help ensure that the North-Eastern region is not represented only through data collected or decisions made from outside the region, but through research conducted with local participation, local understanding and long-term responsibility.
